Facebook will flag posts with links to pro-Russian media

Following Russia’s invasion of Ukraine, Facebook Meta Platforms Inc. continues to block messages and links from Russian-backed state media.

“In the coming days, Meta will begin tagging postings on Facebook and Instagram with links to Russian-backed state media.” “These linkages will be added to messages all across the world,” said Nick Clegg, president of worldwide communications for the corporation.

Wider Efforts to Restrict Russian Propaganda

This is Meta’s latest attempt to stop Russian misinformation from spreading through its services. Meta has already barred advertisements from Russian-backed media outlets and devalued their material in users’ feeds, and last week it limited access to Russian media outlets such as RT and Sputnik.

As a result, the Russian government has imposed “throttling” on Facebook in Russia, which varies in intensity and length, according to Clegg.
