The company bought more than 30 gigawatts of renewable energy in 2021
The previous year, Amazon.com Inc., the online retail titan, set a new record for collective renewable energy purchases as businesses try to clean up their energy sources in the face of climate change.
Amazon purchased 20% of the record 31.1 gigawatts of renewable energy capacity purchased by firms in 2021.
Equivalent to more than a third of California’s generating capacity
Amazon has acquired sustainable energy deals of 6.2 gigawatts, bringing its total clean energy capacity to 13.9 gigawatts and placing it as the 12th biggest clean energy portfolio from other types of businesses.
It’s not a question of when collective purchases will rise; it’s a question of how much it will rise. “More businesses are committing to sustainability, the renewable energy value is falling, and worldwide managers are gradually realizing that clean energy can be a silver bullet in decarbonizing the private sector,” said Kyle Harrison, BNEF’s Head of Reports.
Corporate clients accounted for more than 10% of all renewable energy capacity added globally the previous year or more than a third of California’s generating capacity.
Following the study, the internet titans were the top collective consumers of sustainable energy the previous year.
